Canadian Space Agency Project

Thanks to a partnership with Canadian Space Agency (St. Hubert,
Quebec), MacDonald Dettwiler Robotics (Toronto, Ontario) and
Northwestel, twenty-five students representing five  Grade 3-5
classrooms at Joamie and Nakasuk Schools on November 26 , 1999 took part in a pilot video-conference Canadian Space Agency electronic classroom module about robotics and Canada's role in space. These students contributed what they had learned to our Iqaluit Millennium database (Knowledge Forum), becoming our classroom experts and mentors for other students in their classrooms and beyond. Future such projects are being
planned. We'd like to thank to all who made this possible, including
Marilyn Steinberg (CSA), Lindsay Evans ( MD Robotics/CSA) and David Fulgham, a Joamie parent from NorthwesTel.

This is a first step in a multi school unit on space exploration. In
the new year our students from Joamie (and one class at Nakasuk School) will be building knowledge about space exploration through the development of a joint Knowledge Forum database with Harry Camsell School in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Results will also be shared on the Canadian Space Agency's Kidspace web page. We will also be sharing information about our respective communities. This project across the territories is made possible by an Office of Learning Technologies grant for which we are thankful.
