Welcome to our "New and Improved' web page. 5 years ago this web page was the first to be offered by any sitting MLA North of 60. We have continually  tried to upgrade and update our information and would like to have your  feedback. Please click on the email cursor at the bottom of the page to  send me an email and let us know how we can serve you better!. The  constituency of Iqaluit East encompasses the area from the Hospital Intersection and everything on the right of Apex Road to Apex. This includes all of Tundra Valley, Happy Valley and everything on the Joamie School side of Apex Road. The Iqaluit East Boundary also extends South to the extreme tip of Cape Chidley and the abandoned settlement of Killinek or Port Burwell. It is the fastest growing constituency in Nunavut.

Our community continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. New construction development, commercial as well as residential and a new francophone school and the AWG facility are some of the more obvious in Happy Valley, Tundra Valley and Apex. This development increases the Cities Tax base but also increases the pressures on municipal services and infrastructure. Two years ago as promised during the 1999 election, I commissioned a Capital Commission Report that was tabled in the Nunavut legislature. It has not been formally endorsed by the City. It describes possible open spaces, park and reserve areas of our community. The report looks at a proactive model of community development. Pick up a copy in Inuktitut or English by contacting the legislative Librarian services here at the Ledge.

At the fourth Iqaluit East constituency meeting held since April 1, 1999 last month, several issues were raised.  There was much concern with the proposed closure of the old arena by the city council as well as on-going concerns with open burning at the town dump.  I have followed up with the constituency meeting discussions by writing a formal letter to the city council with the concerns raised.

I also scheduled a meeting with the city council to discuss these and other municipal and territorial issues.  The April and May 2002 sitting of the Legislative Assembly will also be the budget session.  New projects in various govt. departments including Housing, Health, Education and Sustainable Development will  impact I believe positively on Iqaluit.

With international and national media focused on Iqaluit during the AWG's our community put it's best foot forward.  Congratulations to athletes, coaches and most of all the AWG organizing team and our dedicated volunteers. The games were a smashing success ...congratulations Iqaluit!!!!!!!
