10th annual Nunavut Trade Show to be largest ever
Iqaluit, Nunavut (January 8, 2000) Organizers of the Nunavut Trade Show announced today that a special 10th annual event will be the largest ever staged.
"We wanted to do something to mark 10 successful years for what started as a one-day show," said Monica Ell, president of the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce, the show's organizer.
"We're making plans to accommodate a record number of exhibitors and delegates."
Nearly 150 public and private-sector exhibitors and thousands of visitors and delegates from Nunavut, across Canada and abroad are expected to attend the show in Iqaluit, the territorial capital, March 1, 2 and 3. The three-day show will be staged in two large venues, with a third set aside for social events and seminars on topics ranging from the unique challenges of training and staffing in the Arctic to marketing on the Internet.
"It will be quite an undertaking for a chamber of our size, so we'll be looking for corporate sponsors again to help us out," added Ms. Ell.
Nunavut an area stretching from James Bay to the top of the world became Canada's newest territory on April 1, 1999. Its approximately 30,000 residents, mostly Inuit, are building tourism and resource exploration industries in part on the momentum and publicity of this first change to the map of Canada in 50 years.
